The Captain
Name, please?
Captain of the Veil
Year of death?
1897. I think. It’s been so long.
Cause of death?
Drowning. There was a ship, a storm, a bottle of rum, and a series of decisions that were absolutely reasonable at the time.
Occupation while living?
Captain. Smuggler. Occasional soothsayer. I also relieved unpleasant men of their possessions they were clearly not responsible enough to own.
How long have you been with Ghost Ride?
About 137 years. You’d think I’m due to retire.
What unfinished business keeps you here?
Trying to find the gold we lost at sea. And keeping the dead gainfully employed. Hell hath no taxes. Or fury like a woman scorned or something.
Biggest pet peeve about the living?
They’re always screaming. You spend your entire lives demanding proof of ghosts, and the moment one of us appears, everyone makes a terrible fuss.
Make up your minds.
What summons you?
Good rum, bad decisions and someone saying “what could possibly go wrong?”
Any messages for our guests before they board?
Ah. More passengers. Don’t worry, we’ve only lost a few people along the way. For liability reasons, whatever follows you home is your responsibility, and, in my experience, does not contribute to rent.
